Growth area
Tropical highland forests of South and Central America
Tree description
The Jatoba tree is on average 30 to 40 meters high, the branch-free trunk 18 to 24 meters high. The trunk has a diameter of 60 to 90 cm, in a rare case 150 cm. The base of the trunk is swollen.
Wood description
The heartwood is orange-red to red-brown. The freshly sawn heartwood is flesh-coloured, pink-red darkening to red-brown, often with dark stripes. Jatoba can be finished smoothly and then has a beautiful shine. The sapwood varies from pinkish white to grey-brown.

Fine to moderately coarse.
