Growth area
Tropical forests of Suriname, French Guiana and Brazil
Tree description
The basralocus tree grows to an average height of 30 to 50 metres. The branch-free trunk is straight, with a diameter of up to 60 cm. It is cylindrical and grows 16 to 20 m in length.
Wood description
The heartwood is golden, rusty or purple brown in color, usually with a brownish red glow. It stands out clearly from the 30-60 mm wide sapwood which is light gray when fresh and turns a light reddish brown after exposure to daylight. Smoothly planed and possibly sanded, Basralocus naturally has a fairly high gloss
