Growth area
Suriname and tropical South and Central America.
Tree description
Height 35-45m with up to 3.5m high rootlets. The straight cylindrical branch free (5-)12-15(-20)m long and has a diameter of (0.4-) 0.7(-1)m.
Wood description
The sallow-brown heartwood discolours quickly to beautiful and purple-blue when exposed to light. To preserve this colour as well as possible, the wood should be sealed well from the air with wax or certain varnishes. If you do not finish the wood, exposure to ultraviolet light (UV) causes the purple colour to turn dirty brown. Gum may ooze from the gum passages, especially at higher temperatures.

Straight, wavy wire, tangled wire and cross wire are common.

Fine to moderately coarse.
