Wonderwoods, Utrecht (NL)The vertical forest of Utrecht has opted for the Forestlines® from Paulussen Houthandel BV.
Building combination Wonderwoods (Boele & van Eesteren | Kondor Wessels Amsterdam) is currently realizing Wonderwoods in the Utrecht station area, commissioned by Wonderwoods Development.
Wonderwoods consists of two green towers connected by an underground parking garage and a walkway. The towers with a total surface area of 70,000 m2 will have a diverse program including rental and owner-occupied homes, offices, retail, catering, education, culture and a semi-public semi-public roof park. Construction of Wonderwoods is expected to be completed Q1/Q2 2024.
Nature in the city
Wonderwoods consists of two green towers of approximately 105 and 73 meters high. The tallest tower, designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti – the Milan-based architectural firm known worldwide for its pioneering Bosco Verticale – will feature a vertical forest of plants on the balconies and facades.
The second tower will be located next to the Kinepolis cinema and is characterized by the curves in the facades, which are typical for MVSA Architects. This design has a lot of greenery on the inside; for example, the tower will have a large atrium and winter gardens along the facades.
Icon for Utrecht as the smart city of the future
The municipality of Utrecht has an ambitious strategy for sustainability, greenery and health. Wonderwoods was chosen because of the heartwarming, green and rich mix of living, working, relaxation, culture and catering. An innovative urban landscape with one hectare of trees and shrubs in and on the facades of both towers. A beautiful, inspiring new living environment in which city dwellers can live in harmony with nature.
Choice for the Forestlines
®
Forestlines met the desired appearance that was sought by the architects.
The fire reaction class is also an extremely important item when it comes to the choice of facade cladding.
The Forestlines pulverized the limit values in END-USE tests and even achieved fire reaction class B s1 d0 with untreated wood.
Until recently, fire reaction class B with untreated wood was impossible for science.
Forestlines® stands for ecology.
In close consultation with clients and client, it was decided to do the wooden facade cladding entirely in FSC 100%.
The Forestlines® ensures that fire class B is achieved without any addition of fire retardants, which is a big plus for people and the environment.
Red Dot Award 2022
The Forestlines® was awarded twice this year by the Red Dot Awards – the largest innovation and design awards in Europe.
We won the category 'Materials and surfaces' and also took home the prize for – The best innovative product'.
It is an honor to see our Forestlines® integrated into this prestigious project.
